Leadership and Management in Health and Social Care

The vocationally-related qualification is devised to improve individual management and leadership skills and competencies. The course places great emphasis on the personal development of the individual learner’s management capabilities and competencies, including providing all the key skills and competencies required to become an effective manager. 

Grossdale Institute will enable learners to become an effective manager capable of developing and managing processes that can contribute to good staff relationships, enhanced staff performance, morale and retention, and increased quality of service to clients The qualification also aims to develop reflective and evaluative skills, self-awareness and confidence.

Entry requirements 
There are basic requirements for this qualification: Good numeracy and literacy skills

Duration 
The duration of Level 5 Diploma is dependent on a learner’s individual schedule.  We, at Grossdale Institute aim to assist each learner to complete their course to the best of their abilities. Learners complete this course within 9 to 10 months.

Unit Format 
90 minimum credits
14 Mandatory Units – 68 Credits

  1. Use and develop systems that promote communication
  2. Promote professional development
  3. Champion equality, diversity and inclusion
  4. Develop health and safety and risk management policies, procedures and practices in health and social care or children and young people’s settings
  5. Work in partnership in health and social care or children and young people’s settings
  6. Manage health and social care practice to ensure positive outcomes for individuals
  7. Safeguarding and protection of vulnerable adults
  8. Understand safeguarding of children and young people for those working in the adult sector
  9. Lead person centred practice
  10. Lead and manage a team within a health and social care or children and young people’s Setting
  11. Develop professional supervision practice in health and social care or children and young people’s work settings
  12. Assess the individual in a health and social care setting
  13. Undertake a research project within services for health and social care or children and young people
  14. Understand professional management and leadership in health and social care or children and young people’s settings

Optional Knowledge Units – Group C:
Example is Understand how to manage a team

Optional Units – Group D:
A sample unit is Lead practice which supports individuals to take positive risks. There are many more units that we offer. Our Trained Assessors are happy to assist and guide learners in the selection of all their optional units.

Assessment
Assessments are carried out holistically. Learners will be assessed in an appropriate format to demonstrate competency, skills or application of knowledge and understanding, as detailed in each assessment criteria within the unit in question. Grossdale Institute provides online portfolio evidence and Trained Assessors who will observe learners’ in their work environment.

Careers and Employability
On completion learners can progress to a wide range of job roles including:

  • Registered Care Manager 
  • Care Broker 
  • Case Manager 
  • Day Care Manager 
  • Residential Care Manager 

Some learners progress to study a degree in: -

Social Work, Health Care Management/Administration, Public Health/Administration or Community Development.
